I've only been fishing out of my kayak for about a year, but i've noticed most of my heavier rods (especially for salmon) seem a bit long out of the kayak.. Getting back to the rod length topic. i like to fish 7' rod's or better from the kayak. the main reason being is if i have the fish go under the boat i can easily reach around the bow to change sides and keep up with the fish. i can see some advantages to having a shorter rod.. Using longer 10-15kg rods made for some grueling battles with plenty of opportunity for pain! casting lures and light baits – long rods. for most kayak anglers i believe the easiest way to choose rod length is to decide if you’re going to spend most of your time casting..
